Municipal waste incineration

In waste incineration, a wide range of atmospheres is encountered due to the large variety of fuels used. This exposes the refractory lining to chlorides, acids and other chemical agents. Temperatures normally vary from 950°C-1,100°C in the combustion chamber, down to 600°C in the economiser.
This places high demands on the refractory material, which must resist chemical, mechanical and thermal abrasion. Any failure of the lining could expose the steel shell to the risk of vapour condensation, which in turn would cause corrosion and premature failure or weakening of the shell.

Our experience shows that a monolithic lining concept using a secure anchoring method offers the best combination of properties, specifically low porosity, so that a tight contact between the refractory and the steel shell is achieved.
CALDERYS’ “PliJoint®” secure expansion system further reduces the risk of alkali gases reaching the steel casing.

Designs vary widely, from thick linings with back up insulation to thin linings installed directly on to tube walls. In all cases, it is important that the hot face material is resistant to abrasion and corrosion.

To recover the maximum amount of energy through the tube walls CALDERYS offers a wide range of SiC-containing materials, which can be installed efficiently and cost-effectively.

CALDERYS has been the first to develop a real self-flow castable, Monrox, which allows a smooth surface and excellent compaction without vibration for a thin lining containing many anchors.
Latest gunning techniques like spraycasting and low porosity gunning allow the installation of products with a high compactness and very low dust and rebound during installation.
For thinner linings SiC ramming products with an adapted plasticity to ensure good and easy placement are offered.

CALDERYS has developed a patented tile system for the lining of tube walls, which combines precast tiles with an original anchor design of ceramic and metallic anchors and products cast-in-situ. This new concept is easy to install and dismantle and prevents the loss of tiles during operation of the incinerator.
CALDERYS ensures that the material selection for every installation is based upon tried and tested technology, using materials that are designed specifically for each application area.
